No rest in my retirement days, A month from finishing my Te Araroa walk in New Zealand, my America walking friend, Ken, planted a seed in my mind to do another long walk, but this time in America

The Continental Divide Trail (CDT) is a United States National Scenic Trail running 3,100 miles (5,000 km) between Mexico and Canada. It traverses five U.S. states — Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico.

Only about two hundred people a year attempt to hike the entire trail, taking about six months to complete it. The three of us plan to do this walk in five months starting late April 2017.

So with my airline tickets all purchased and transport to get to the starting point, all I need now is camping equipment.

I have learnt a lot from my last hike and the most important thing is my back weight, In New Zealand I had a base weight of 12.5kg, then I need to ad water and food. This time I want to cut at least 5 kgs off that weight and get to something like 8kgs base weight.

For me to do this, I need to spend money and generally repurchase all my equipment such as backpack, sleeping bag,  tent and cooking items. This is my first job when I arrive in Los Angeles and I have already got my shopping list ready See equipment list
